Overview

Mardi Himal Trek is the best short trek in Nepal. It is also known as way to reach the base camp of Mardi Himal, a short and slightly challenging, equally popular trekking in Nepal for the breathtaking mountain views and incredible trekking experience. Within a few days, this trek offers a memorable travel experience full of joy, entertainment, excitement, and most of all a true Himalayan Mountain exploration.

Mardi Himal Trek is the best choice for Nepalese travelers and trekkers as well. From the start of Trekking to Mardi Himal, Mardi Trekking has been an attraction for numerous trekkers, both Nepalese and foreigners. Either in natural and cultural aspects or terms of the Adventurous experience, This Trekking surpasses your every expectation. From the beginning of this trek, the nomads can expect a truly natural experience with a cultural blend. It begins with walking through the green lush alpine forest full of junipers, pines, oaks, rhododendrons, and wildflowers. Furthermore, every step of your hike through the ridge line offers splendid views and chameleonic landscapes; the sight to the down offers a beautiful green valley, and the rise of the heads catches an astounding mountain scenery.

Lesser known/popular trekking in Nepal compared to the classic Everest Trekking or Annapurna Trekking, but still, Mardi trek ranks high for its outstanding aspects. Even in a short period, Mardi rewards a full package of thrill, excitement, wilderness, rugged and rough trails, a long range of the mountains of the Mid Himalayas each standing and rising high to dominate the sky, and all those with the cultural mix-up. More about the Mardi Himal Trek, it still comes on the top list for every traveler visiting Nepal for a short period looking for perfect Himalayan trekking. Even the wanderers go for long trekking such as Annapurna Trek or Everest Trek balance Mardi trek for their preparation and pre-trek activities.

What Makes the Mardi Himal Trek Special in 2024/2025?

The Mardi Himal Trek is a hidden gem in the Annapurna region, offering trekkers a less crowded and more serene trekking experience. This trek provides an incredible opportunity to explore the pristine landscapes, dense forests, high alpine meadows, and stunning views of the Mardi Himal and Machapuchare (Fishtail) peaks. The Mardi Himal Trek is ideal for those seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure with breathtaking mountain views and a rich cultural experience.

Annapurna Conservation Area

Established in 1986, the Annapurna Conservation Area covers 7,629 sq km and is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna. Trekking through this protected area allows trekkers to appreciate the biodiversity and conservation efforts in the region.

Altitude Considerations

The Mardi Himal Trek varies in altitude, starting from about 1,770 meters (5,807 feet) in Kande to a high point of 4,500 meters (14,764 feet) at Mardi Himal Base Camp. The gradual ascent allows for proper acclimatization, making this trek suitable for trekkers with moderate experience.

Altitude Sickness

While the trek reaches a maximum altitude of 4,500 meters, the risk of altitude sickness is a concern. To mitigate altitude sickness:

A) Acclimatize properly with gradual ascent and adequate rest days

B) Stay hydrated and avoid alcohol

C) Be aware of symptoms and descend immediately if they worsen

D) Proper preparation and awareness ensure a safe and enjoyable trek

Trek Safety

Ensuring safety on the Mardi Himal Trek is crucial. Key safety measures include:

A) Hiring experienced guides and porters for security and local knowledge

A) Engaging in regular cardio and strength training exercises

B) Undertaking shorter hikes to familiarize yourself with altitude trekking

C) Packing the right gear, including layered clothing, sturdy boots, and trekking poles

D) Acquiring necessary permits (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit and TIMS card)

E) Arranging comprehensive travel insurance

Getting to Kande

The trek starts from Kande, accessible by a short drive from Pokhara. Public buses and private vehicles offer scenic views of the surrounding landscapes and terraced fields.

Visa and Permits for Mardi Himal Trek

A) Visa Requirements: Obtain a visa upon arrival at Kathmandu airport or from a Nepali embassy

B) Entry Permits: Trekkers must have a TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) card and an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit

Physical Fitness and Preparation

A) Fitness Level: Moderate fitness required; training with hikes and cardio is recommended

B) Altitude Sickness: Acclimatization days and gradual ascent help prevent altitude sickness

Conclusion

The Mardi Himal Trek is a culturally rich and moderately challenging trek that offers stunning natural beauty and a rewarding experience. Proper preparation, understanding the weather and altitude challenges, and packing the right gear are essential for a successful trek. Travers Nepal looks forward to hosting your unforgettable adventure on the Mardi Himal Trek in 2024/2025.

Important Note

Food and Accommodation comes always in high concern during trekking or any tour or traveling. The First things making a holiday incredible are food and accommodation service. During the stay at Kathmandu and Pokhara, we maintain the tourist standard/ 3-star hotel accommodation in twin sharing basic and that includes breakfast. While both food and accommodation during the trekking are provided in a local teahouse or guest house. Despite the sound low facilitates but they maintain high quality and the best available services.

All accommodation is subject to Twin sharing basic and only Breakfast is included in the packages. While every guest house or teahouse offers all meals especially, Dal Bhat, Roti, Spaghetti, Pastas, bread, and butter, Noodles, Paratha, chicken items, omelets, and much healthier hygienic, and delicious national and international foods.

Best Season for Mardi Himal Trek

Mardi Trekking can be attempted at any season, but we recommend completing it during the autumn or summer season. Those two seasons have a very low/ nominal chance of rain and snowfall and the route will be dry and stable. Even those seasons are very clear, and the scenery will be very clean all day and night. Autumn is one of the most followed times of the year for trekking in Nepal while summer is equally popular for rhododendron flowers. They bloom and change the whole scenery during summer.  All the seasons are a great way to reach the base camp of the Mardi Himal.

Lifetime Experience!

I recently travelled to Nepal and trekked around annapurna region encompassing the beautiful Thorang-La at 5412m. It was my first time to Nepal and i was solo traveller. I had my reservation about this once realising it would just be me and a guide. On arriving Nepal, i was introduce with guide on a first day. Travers Nepal managed everything from airport pick up, guide manage, accommodation manage to airport departure. At end of each night we (Me and guide) would have a chat and discuss how was doing and what would be happening the next day. I found this company is managing very well and cannot recommend highly enough.
