Overview

Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Lakes is the best trekking in Everest Region for whom love to extend their EBC Trek. Everest Base Camp with Gokyo is 2nd most popular and famous trekking route following the EBC Trek. Most thrill-seekers and adventurers search for a unique and more fascinating trekking experience and look for something new and adventurous. And EBC and Gokyo Valley trek meets their expectation. The destination will be the same, but the alternative route will be followed for another milestone. It skips the traditional route of Everest Base Camp while returning and following the more thrilling and excitingly adventurous routes for a more Himalayan experience. Gokyo Valley is like Fragrance in Gold, adding more excitement and glorious memories to Everest Base Camp Trek. This addition of the route brings and passes through the Gokyo Valley, probably the most iconic place to admire the Khumbu region. So EBC with Gokyo Ri is the extension of the classical EBC Trek adding more thrill-excitement, glories, adventure, cultural significance, and supreme creation of nature which we call the mysterious land.

Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Lakes is famous for the stunning vistas and panoramas of the Entire Khumbu Region from Gokyo Ri and the exploration of the series of Oligotrophic Lakes in Everest Trek which we call Gokyo Lakes. Gokyo Valley and the Gokyo Lake Stream consist of 19 glacial lakes spreading from the elevation of 4600m to 5100m. Most of the time, these lakes are used to be frozen, but Autumn and Summer are pretty different, the lakes and the reflection of the snowy peaks are some things like the canvas by the finest artisan. Gokyo Valley is a true paradise on earth. The Gokyo Lake system is the source of the River Dudh Koshi named after the Main Lake Dudh Pokhari. These are the Freshwater lakes, and the main source is the seepage from Himalayan glaciers. One of the major sources is the Ngozumpa glacier- the longest glacier in the Himalayas. Gokyo valley is also one of the highest-placed settlements situated at an elevation of 4,790m. The small settlement at the eastern shore of the Dudh Pokhari looks awesome and offers a fantastic experience of glancing at the snow land and the snowy hills and their water reflection.

Many trekkers want to complete the Everest Base Camp trek with the addition of the Gokyo Valley Exploration. But many of us don’t know exactly why to switch and follow the alternate. And the answer is quite simple- to add more glory to the typical and classical trek to Everest Base Camp. Oligotrophic Lakes in Everest Trek is a fascinating, thrilling, adventurous journey that goes circular with more challenges and thrill. The classic route is the same for return while the alternate to Gokyo offers a rounder trip in the Everest region.

Day 3 : Flight to Lukla and trek to Phakding (2700 meters) | 3/4 hrs | (B, L, D)

Early in the morning, we take a flight to Lukla. During the peak trekking season, the flights use to be highly occupied, and schedules are very tight. We must have to catch an early flight for a better start. And take breakfast at Lukla as well.

During the peak season, to avoid traffic issues, regular flights to Lukla are used to schedule from Manthali Airport, Ramechap. In such a situation, we even wake every morning to reach Manthali for an early flight. Manthali to Lukla flight goes for around 20 minutes. It takes around 4 hours of drive to reach the Manthali Airport from Kathmandu. The 25-30 min flight will be very awesome with insane aerial views of the diverse geography, terrains, hills, basin, river valleys, farmlands, cities, countryside, and mostly the mountains.

After landing in Lukla, we take our first mountain breakfast and prepare the backpacks and continue to trek. The Porters/ remaining crew members will join us here in Lukla before we kick out our Everest Base Camp Trek. We descend to the bank of River Dudh Koshi passing through the Chaurikharka. Phakding, the small settlement of the sherpa people, will come on the way and we take a break here overnight.

Day 4 : Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440 meters) | 5/6 hrs | (B, L, D)

After Breakfast, we begin to ascend through the lush rhododendron forest and reach Monjo. At the very beginning of the trekking, we cross the suspension bridge over the River Dudh Koshi. It takes around 2 hours of average ascends through lush rhododendron, oak, junipers, and pine forests before approaching Monjo. We will see the prayer flags tied on the rock and small stupas on the way.

Monjo is the Entrance of the Sagarmatha National Park, the UNESCO World Heritage Site listed for the importance of the endemic and rare Himalayan species of floras and faunas and the importance of the global ecosystem.

After the formalities/ checking by the forest and national park guards and Armies, we enter the Sagarmatha National Park. The Monjo offers a great glance of the staring Mt. Thamserku. After a while of trekking, we reach Jhorsale where we take our lunch. After about 45 mins of hiking from Jhorsale, we reach the one of longest suspension bridges named Hillary Bridge. The river point underneath the suspension is the junction of the Bhote Koshi and Dudh Koshi. Crossing the bridge, we again take a little vigorous ascend till approach the beautiful Sherpa village of Namche Bazar. The hard climb rewards the very beautiful sight of Mt. Everest and that will surely relieve your stress and tire.

Day 5 : Rest in Namche (3440 meters) | (B, L, D)

It’s always good to add an acclimatization day when you are at an elevation above 3000m from sea level. It allows our body and health to adjust to the sudden change in elevation, weather, and oxygen level. We must climb almost 1000 meters to reach Namche Bazar and experts recommend acclimatizing to elevation in every 1000m of climb. Considering the elevation, we spend a day here in Namche Bazar and explore the surroundings as well as hike nearby Everest Viewpoint.

Everest Viewpoint or Hotel Everest View is one of the most popular and famous places in the Everest Region/Khumbu Region. The Viewpoint has an astounding glance at Mt. Everest and neighboring mountains such as Thamserku, Kongde, Kusum Kanguru, and Nuptse stood high one after another. It takes only an hour in max to reach there from Namche Bazar. The Hotel Everest View is the world Highest Placed Star hotel and a gunnies world record holder for that as well. Take a cup of tea or coffee and sit in front of the almighty Mt. Everest! This is what we call the glories of Everest Trekking.

We also explore the capital city of the Khumbu Region- the Namche Bazar. This is the largest market and settlement in the entire Khumbu region and the biggest shopping hub for Everest Travelers and trekkers. We visit the explore the marketplace, buy some items if we need and forgot to take them before. We interact and communicate with the local people who are so kind and frank with the visitors.

Day 6 : Trek to Tengboche Monastery (3860 meters) | 5 hours | (B, L, D)

The segment of trekking from Namche to Tengboche is one of the best parts of Everest Trekking and the most scenic as well. The numerous mountain vistas, landscapes, and glimpses of the Himalayan range are so mesmerizing. Throughout the whole day, we have very great mountain views and landscapes spreading around the Khumbu Region.

After having breakfast at Namche Bazar, we continue our hiking. We cross the small Sherpa Villages, Stupas and Monasteries, Chortens, Mani walls, and Prayer Flags tied over the routes, and pass out the rhododendrons, pines, oaks, junipers, and many other alpine floras.

Remember it is one of the biggest National Parks in Nepal and we may have a chance to encounter some of the rare and endemic Himalayan wild animals. Walking through the glacial of the River Dudh Koshi, we have great views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and many Others. Especially, the Ama Dablam is so iconic and majestic to admire during this segment of Everest Trekking.

The Very beginning of the day trek is very easy for around 1 and a half hours before descending to level the Imja Khola where we take our lunch. After a while, we again ascend the uphill route to approach the Tengboche where we spend a night.

Tengboche is another popular village in the Everest region and equally the best to explore the sherpa culture and history. The Tengboche Monastery is the most popular and one of the biggest monasteries in the entire Khumbu region and the center of the sherpa people faint and beliefs as well. We visit the monastery and wish we can get the blessing of the Buddhist monk. Having a bit of luck, we may meet Lama Rinpoche who is the biggest monk in Buddhism.

Day 7 : Tengboche to Dingboche (4400 meters) | 5.30 hours | (B, L, D)

Enjoy your breakfast with a great view of tipping Mt. Everest behind the Nuptse range, Lhotse, and iconic Mt. Ama Dablam. Then we start to trek we slightly descend to level the Imja River after Debuche surrounded by pines and rhododendrons and cross the suspension bridge over Imja Khola. We pass the moraines and some stoned memorials in memory of the climbers and trekkers deceased on different mountain expeditions and climbing.

Crossing the Imja Khola Suspension bridge, we reach one of the large settlements namely Pangboche. The uphill ascends from here take us to a small settlement of fancy cafes and bakeries. The trail becomes drier, rugged, deserted, and open. We come closer to the mountains, and they start to appear with their gigantic looks. We then reach Dingboche where we spend a night.

Day 8 : Acclimatization Day at Dingboche | (B, L, D)

Another milestone! Another likely 800 meters of climbing and it’s time to acclimatize to the elevation and new atmosphere. Dingboche is one of the popular places in Everest trekking and memorable too as Tenzing Norge Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary step their first step for Everest Summit. Here in Dingboche we spend a day for acclimatization and exploring the surrounding and nearby peaks.

We hike the nearby peak called Nangkartshang, 5,083m. it takes around 3 hours to reach the viewpoint. The Nangkartsang viewpoint offers an excellent aerial of the several peaks in the Everest ranges and the gigantic Lhotse, Nuptse, and other snowcapped peaks. Especially, the iconic look of the Ama Dablam, the island peak, Imja valley, and Chukung valley make an incredibly picturesque scene. After the descent, we explore the Dingboche Village. Interact and connect with the locals. It will be very nice to learn and understand their history, bravery, and ability to survive in the highland. Don’t forget to get tips from them to skill yourself.

Day 9 : Dingboche to Lobuche (4910 meters) | 5 hours | (B, L, D)

From here the trekking trail becomes more tough and challenging compared to the previous segment. A thinner oxygen level means more tiredness and more energy consumption. Passing the grazing lands, we join the uphill sloppy ascends and continue to walk through the ridge line, the shoulder of the Pheriche. The environment here is different from the previous days and the terrain suddenly becomes wider open and wilder. We get a great picture of the Tawache, Cholatse, Lobuche, and iconic Ama Dablam on the way. We take our lunch at the bank of t

slopy landscapes the Khumbu Glacier. Another 1hr of hiking brought us to the Sherpa memorial place namely Thukla pass, 4,800m. Several Stone-made memorials in the memories of the sherpa expeditors and climbers are built over here. From here the gradual and even track brings us to Lobuche, the side of the Khumbu Glacier. The route will be rocky, and slippery due to melting snow during summer and snow-covered during autumn. Reaching the Lobuche during the clear sky before sunset allows majestic shades of the evening. Taking dinner early, we get to bed early for perfect sleep for tomorrow’s early morning hike.

Day 10 : Trek to Everest Base Camp (5365 meters) then back to Gorak Shep (5180 meters) | 8 hours | (B, L, D)

We begin with a soft walk up to the Gorek Shep. Then after, we take the uphill routes and go along the Khumbu Glacier until the Everest Base Camp. This part will be rocky and craggy. It takes about 3 hours to reach Gorek Shep where we take our meal and continue with glacier/ moraine to reach our much-awaited destination. On the way, we have great views of the Khumbu Icefall and a glimpse of the tipping Everest. The clouds and fogs under the neath separate the snowcapped mountains from the lower alpine greeneries. We meet the number of climbers attempting Everest and Lhotse Summit. About 3 hours of trekking along the glaciers brings us to the Everest Base Camp. We can see the numerous tent and camps for mountain climbers. The close-up views of the gigantic and almighty mt Everest standing tall in front of us from the EBC is what weare giving our all effort in the EBC trek. Imagine the moment. Residing in the lap of the world’s tallest mountains and admiring its glory. It’s the memories no one can explain in the words. After a while in Everest Base Camp, we step back and return to Gorek Shep where we spend a night before diverting our route for another Milestone.

Day 12 : Dzongla to Thangna (4650 m.) | 5 hrs | (B, L, D)

We complete the climb of 600m height to reach the top of Cho La pass and descend the steep downhill with safety causations. This part of the downhill descent is a little hard due to the melting ice, rocks and scree, and scary slopes. Then after the grassy route leads us to the Village of the Thangna settle above the Ngozumpa Glacier.

Despite the tough ascend and descent of crossing the Cho La Pass, we will be stunned by the incredible views of the surrounding peaks and mountains from the pass. The west offers stunning views of the Kyajo Ri and Pharilapche Peak along with other neighboring mountains. On the northern side, the Massif Mahalangur Range offers astounding Himalayan vistas. While the southeastern offers the great show of Mount Cholatse and iconic Mt. Ama Dablam.

Day 13 : Thangna to Gokyo (4750m.) | 5/6 hrs | (B, L, D)

The Morning with the fading fogs and mist reveals the rubble-covered wide Ngozumpa Glacier. Nepal’s Longest Ngozumpa Glacier is kilometers long and wide. We hike to the top of these glaciers and descend the rubble-covered grey land. The Western side of the glacier begins to show the Dudh Pokhari, one of the lakes in the Gokyo Lake Series. We continue in the northern direction with the sight of the mind-blowing Cho Oyu. We gradually climb for around 30-40 mins and approach the Sixth lake of Gokyo Valley called Thonak Tsho. We further go through the Ngozumpa Tsho and a small low hill viewpoint offering stunning views of the Gokyo Valley and mountains including Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Nuptse, Cho Oy, and Gyanchung Kang. We return to the Gokyo valley the night.
